Favourite Independent Shops
Visitors to St Davids love the wonderful independent gift shops and galleries as well as the local Visitor Centre shop and gallery at Oriel Y Parc and that of the National Trust. Here’s some of their favourites that are all within walking distance, in the heart of the city:
Basalt and Dune
Basalt & Dune just oozes coastal living! It’s a lifestyle and gift shop selling a unique collection of homewares, original art and prints, local jewellery, handmade ceramics, skincare and eco-friendly gifts all inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings.
The Peepal Tree
This fabulous Aladdin’s cave offers an extensive range of silver jewellery, costume jewellery, clothing, knitwear, bath products, essential oils, candles, unusual gifts and home furnishings, many of which are designed in house.
Studio 6
This cosy local family gallery showcases traditional techniques with a contemporary feel in the paintings of Tony Kitchell, the work of Rose Periam and the miraculous Raku work of Tony’s brother Tim. Rose has been dedicated to offering the best and most personal experience for visitors since 1990. Among other local offerings are a fine stock of superb Melin Tregwynt textiles.
The Really Wild Emporium
A shop that not only looks good but smells good due to its stock of handmade soaps and delicious hand-selected range of food and drink, each containing something from the wild and as locally sourced as possible. A must for those conscious about their daily impact on the environment. There’s wonderful array of sustainable, eco-conscious kitchenware and bathroom products too.
Big Mommas Knits
Big Momma’s Knits & Crafty Bits is a family run business supplying lots of hand-knitted goods and supporting lots of local artists. Katy also sells haberdashery and craft supplies, tucked up above the fish and chip shop where you’ll often find her knitting away behind the counter!
Goat Street Gallery
A most beautifully housed Fine Art and Craft gallery, in a converted 1816 chapel, owned and run by artists Amanda and Daniel Wright, featuring their unique textiles and ceramics along with a wealth of other local and international fine arts. This gallery’s wonderful setting makes for an inspirational visit.
The Pebbles Yard and Espresso Bar
The gallery showcases the world photography of St Davids-based Jacki Sime and her much coveted large framed images. Together with her books and cards there’s a huge collection of contemporary jewellery and an eclectic collection of work by designer artists. With seating upstairs and outside the Gallery is also a lively, friendly and popular central meeting point for coffee and cake.

A flagship for Responsible Retail – TYF have scoured the land and chosen brands who care about creating long-lasting, ethical, Fair Trade, organic cotton products with lifetime guarantees. They are Patagonia’s second-oldest UK retail partner and work closely with a range of other fellow B-Corps and ethical brands. You will also find a Repair Centre housed here, where you’ll find the buttons, buckles, needle and thread to keep your clothes and gear in use for longer.
