The walk from Porthclais to Caerfai takes you on a scenic journey along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
Start Point: Porthclais
Begin at Porthclais Harbour near St Davids. It’s a quaint working harbour mostly given over to tourist activities in recent years.
Path: Pembrokeshire Coast Path
At Porthclais take the path on the left-hand side of the harbour to head south towards Caerfai.
The trail runs along cliffs, offering dramatic views of the Irish Sea and St Brides Bay
Nature & Wildlife
A small group of Common Guillemots
Look out for seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and a variety of gulls nesting along the cliffs. Its also possible to see seals in the rocky bays below towards the end of summer and early autumn.
The coastal wildflowers come out in force during the spring a summer months.
Cliffside Terrain
As you walk, the trail climbs and descends along the cliffs, with some rocky and uneven sections. Take care on dusty or slippy areas where the path narrows.
St Nons Bay
St Nons Chapel dating from the 6th century can be seen from the coast path as you walk along the top of St Non’s Bay which is secluded and rocky.
Approaching Caerfai Bay
As you near Caerfai Bay, the landscape softens with rolling fields leading to the beach.
The path down to the bay slopes down the cliff with high hawthorn hedges at certain points blocking the view of the sand beach below.
Caerfai Bay
Arrive at Caerfai Bay, a peaceful, sandy bay, ideal for families and walkers.
The bay has shallow waters and a sandy shoreline, perfect for a rest after the walk.
It also benefits from high sided cliffs which help to shelter the bay from the wind.
End Point: Caerfai
This walk is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) long and takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on pace and how often you stop.
