Dog Friendly St Davids
October is the perfect month to come on a dog friendly holiday to St Davids. There are plenty of uncrowded, beautiful walks and wild, rugged, open spaces to roam. There is also a wide array of places to eat out that welcome your furry friend too. Here’s some of our favourite places that are dog friendly.
Beach Walks
October 1st sees Whitesands Beach’s summer dog restrictions lifted and dogs are welcome here again until May 1st. Whitesands beach is a wonderful sandy beach just perfect for a good run and a stretch of the legs. There’s a great cafe, Whitesands Beach House, for the perfect take out lunch to enjoy on the benches with the most fantastic view or to sit in if it’s raining.
Eating Out
Eating indoors as well as out is an option as most places in St Davids for instance: The Cross Hotel, The Farmers Arms and The Bishops, daytimes and evenings and daytimes: The Mill Cafe, Pilgrims Cafe at Oriel y Parc visitor centre, along with as previously mentioned, Whitesands Beach House. The Really Wild Emporium Cafe has indoor seating which is dog friendly during the day and Whitesands Beach House, the kiosk at Whitesands and The Bench all stock doggy ice cream! Another daytime favourite is the outdoor Pothclais Kiosk at Porthclais Harbour.
Solva Day Out
Solva is a great day out and it’s possible to take your well-behaved four-legged friend on the bus from St Davids to Solva (at the driver’s discretion) so long as they are on a lead and sit on the floor. Otherwise there is a National Trust car park by the Harbour Pub. Either walk to Middle Mill by following the river upstream, along the lovely peaceful wooded valley. Visit Middle Mill shop and Cafe for a spot of shopping or lunch before walking back to catch the bus or find your car. There’s more shopping to be had here at Window on Wales and other galleries along the main street. And for eating out you are spoiled for choice here! The Ship Inn, The Cambrian Arms, MamGu’s Cafe, Cafe 35 – all a few steps from the car park and all serving food, ales and sweet treats, teas and coffees.
You can also walk along the harbour and beach if the tide is out to the main harbour which is so peaceful and picturesque and grab a take out coffee from The Quay to enjoy on the harbour benches.
Boat Trip
Dogs are welcomed by most of the local boat trip providers on the shorter boat trips but if you are wanting to go on one of the longer excursions then you may like to enquire about local dog sitting and walking provision. Coast Walk
We have miles of stunning coastline for walking and the advice to keep dogs under close control, preferably on a lead, is for the safety of all.
